4000 Holes
Spending this cold winter weekend preparing for a performance of John Luther Adams’ 4000 Holes later this winter. This work, one of his newest pieces, is written for piano, percussion, and electronic soundscape and will be performed at Northern Illinois University in March with my Nothing in Common duo partner, Mabel Kwan. The piece, which references the Beatles, should be a wonderful close...

I’m in the early stages of a project for @PercussiveArts and am working with the Music Technology Committee to compile a list of “significant percussion-centric repertoire that utilizes electronics.” Please see the link above if you would like to add pieces to the Google Spreadsheet to help us get the most complete overview and timeline. We have further phases of the project in...

Discuss: Mallet Quartet Excerpt
What does everyone think of the audio excerpt I just linked to? How many of you have seen in in person? What were your thoughts - agree or disagree with the comments in the nntv episode with Jason Treuting of So Percussion?
Looking forward to hearing some reflection!

What I would give to be out at Stanford today, and less than a week from when I WILL be there. I’m really looking forward to hearing Reich’s new “Mallet Quartet” - what does everybody think/know about the new piece? I’d love to get some discussion going about it and hear how everyone imagines it may turn out. Not long until many of us will find out!

Wonderful article from the weekend in the New York Times about how “drums are the new violins.” Awesome coverage from Glennie to So Percussion and discussion of early John Cage up to Glenn Kotche and Wilco!

Here is a great podcast that looks like it also is in its early episodes. It is great to get outside of the percussion world and hear a piano player’s point of view. Check it out and support what she is doing.
Can't wait for 2010
Having an amazing holiday which was much needed after a long semester. I’m highly anticipating 2010 and some really exciting ideas ahead. Currently doing some “tidying up” of my online endeavors and will be getting back to nntv episodes very soon. I miss the discussions we had going and there are lots more to come in January.

Music and Number
There are hundreds of topics which I plan to pursue on this blog, but things must start somewhere. Please, feel free to suggest topics for discussion.
