Spending this cold winter weekend preparing for a performance of John Luther Adams’ 4000 Holes later this winter. This work, one of his newest pieces, is written for piano, percussion, and electronic soundscape and will be performed at Northern Illinois University in March with my Nothing in Common duo partner, Mabel Kwan. The piece, which references the Beatles, should be a wonderful close to this JLA portrait concert we are preparing. I can’t wait to put it together.

A Hypothetical three strike system when considering the quality of a piece of new music…strikes are as follows:

Music is printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
That paper is in portrait rather than landscape format.
Music is engraved in either Finale or Sibelius rather than a custom font.

Any thoughts?

Vienna Phil and Dudamel coming to Centre!:

I worked at Centre College for several years and it is a beautiful place. Next year Lexington will be hosting the World Equestrian Games and the Vienna Philharmonic are coming with Dudamel conducting - I highly suggest anybody in the region try to check it out!

I’m in the early stages of a project for @PercussiveArts and am working with the Music Technology Committee to compile a list of “significant percussion-centric repertoire that utilizes electronics.” Please see the link above if you would like to add pieces to the Google Spreadsheet to help us get the most complete overview and timeline. We have further phases of the project in mind, but this a starting point right now.
